Westfield High School Seniors Publish Children's Book
Westfield High School seniors Mahika Dang and Sophia Basaldua have published their first children's book, "Simon Saves," a 25-page paperback that tells the story of Simon, a young squirrel who learns the value of responsibility, hard work, and financial wisdom after crashing his bike and realizing he has spent all of his allowance. The book aims to teach children through 12 years old the value of responsibility, hard work, and financial wisdom. The idea was brainstormed last year, with Dang feeling it was a creative way to positively impact younger audiences and Basaldua having never thought of illustrating a children's book before. The biggest challenge was choosing the specifics behind the story and characters, taking weeks to decide the plot, formatting of pictures/words, and title.
